The field of Biomaterials has evidenced decades of evolution, but it is noteworthy that the advent of molecular biology has made this field interdisciplinary in the truest sense. This has brought in the scope for material scientist to design materials that impart a specific biological function and at the same time enabled the biologists to overcome several limitations. This field has broadened and contributed to our understanding of how physical sciences can provide tangible explanations of various biological processes, mechanisms etc. This in turn has helped in the design of materials contributing effectively to translational science.
In this symposium, we aim to deliberate on such advances made in the emerging areas in the field of Biomaterial research with some insights into the foreseeable future challenges. Some of the areas that will be covered by the experts include biomaterial systems for mechanosensing, material properties that direct stem cell fate and biodiagnostic development, broadly.
