My PhD work was carried out in Professor Herbert Steinbeisser's laboratory at
the
Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology,
Tuebingen, and the
University of Heidelberg, Germany. I obtained my PhD from the
University of Tuebingen, Germany, in 2004. I continued in Herbert's laboratory
for 2 more years with a competitive young investigator fellowship from the Heidelberg University Medical School. I focused on elucidating the role of Wnt/Frizzled
signaling in regulating embryonic morphogenesis during the seven years I spent
in his laboratory.
In 2006, I joined
Professor Roy Bicknell's laboratory at the
University of Birmingham, UK, as a research
fellow to study molecular regulation of tumour
angiogenesis. I also established a zebrafish
facility to study the development of vascular
system during vertebrate embryogenesis.
Subsequently, my
interest in clinical research took me to
Professor Caroline Dive's laboratory at the
Paterson Institute for Cancer Research,
Manchester, UK. While studying cancer
metastasis using circulating tumour cells as a
model in Caroline's group, I also obtained
experience in clinical trials, good clinical
practice and cancer genomics.
Since December
2011, I head the vascular biology laboratory at
ILS, Bhubaneswar, supported by a Ramalingaswami
fellowship from
Department of Biotechnology,
Government of India.
